You will need to bring a machine to class with you and a walking foot is required for this project. Class is from 10 am - 4 pm with an instructor to guide you through this project step-by-step.
Materials
Jelly Roll Strip Set or (42) 2.5" x WOF strips
Terial Magic
Batting strips (this can be purchased already stripped or this is a great use of extra batting you have) approximately 50 yards of 2.5" batting
Lots of thread & bobbins
Supplies
Walking Foot
Sewing Machine with Zig Zag Stitch
Extension table if you have it (this will help you as the rug grows quickly in size)
Pre-work
Done before class, can make your class day way more productive! Jelly roll rugs require some simple pre-work that does take a bit of time, so having this all taken care of before you arrive will mean you can actually work on your rug (not just all the prep) during class.
1) Starch all strips with Terial Magic first. Miter all jelly roll strips together, end to end, then press seams open.
2) Make your jelly roll by placing your batting against the wrong side of your fabric strip, then folding it in on itself twice, so the raw edges are contained inside. Sew with a straight stitch to join.
3) Roll it into a ball so that it won't tangle as you sew your rug.
4) Pre-winding several bobbins can save you from having to do it throughout the class as well. Since you make the rug with a zig zag stitch it uses a LOT of thread.
