June 25th-27th: Bella Quilt Coat Workshop - Quilting Elissa

Create a handmade garment that’s as cozy as it is stylish! Join us for a three-day workshop with Elissa Ziccardi, of Quilting Elissa, as she guides makers through constructing View A of the Bella Quilt Coat, with the option to incorporate the Bella Accent Sleeves expansion pack for an elevated, custom look.

Throughout the workshop, you’ll learn Elissa’s approachable process for transforming quilted panels into a beautifully unique coat—from preparing your pieces to adding professional finishing touches. While each day focuses on progressive skills, the class moves at a comfortable pace, and some steps may shift depending on group progress.

What You’ll Make

Participants will complete:

• Optional: Bella Accent Sleeves (pattern or accent strip version)

All detailed step-by-step instructions will be included in the Welcome Guide provided no later than 90 days in advance after registration.

Required Prep-work (Before You Arrive)

To ensure you get the most out of your workshop experience, all makers must complete the following before class begins:

• Take and record body measurements for ideal garment fit

• Prewash and prepare all chosen fabrics

• Cut both main and contrasting fabrics

• Cut batting

• Create mini quilts for the following pieces as outlined in the Plan & Preparation Guide (fronts, back, sleeves, and collar)

• Bella Accent Sleeves: Foundation paper piecing is required to be completed in advance of the workshop for makers that are including the expansion pack design of their choice (OPTIONAL)

This prep allows us to jump right into coat construction during the workshop.

Workshop Flow

While full step-by-step guidance will be provided in your Welcome Guide, here’s an overview of what we’ll cover:

Day 1 (Thursday, 5pm–8pm)

Pattern overview, preparing and cutting pattern pieces, cutting lining fabric, and setting up workstations for full sewing days ahead.

Day 2 (Friday, 9am–5pm)

Coat assembly begins: yoke and sleeve construction, cutting mini quilts, pocket installation, sewing shoulders and side seams, and attaching the collar.

Day 3 (Saturday, 9am–5pm)

Finishing techniques: zipper guard and zipper installation, lining assembly, joining lining to exterior, turning the garment, closing the lining, topstitching, and final sleeve hems.

Note: Progress may vary by group—some Day 3 tasks may begin on Day 2 depending on class pace.
