Custom Classes
We are now offering small group custom classes. Choose from a set of basic topics or bring us your own and we will create one for your group. Minimum class size is 3 people, maximum of 8. These can be booked both during store hours and nights/ weekends. These are designed for beginner sewist to build your skill base and have fun with some friends. See class topics below then fill out the form at the bottom of the page to get started. Classes must be paid for to be reserved. All class participants receive 20% off class supplies. Children are permitted but must be paired with a responsible adult willing to help them through the process and are the same participant fee as everyone else. Food and beverages are allowed (including alcoholic) however you are responsible for cleaning up after yourself if you use the food and beverage area.
Basic Sewing Notions: scissors, rotary cutter, seam ripper, pins
Machine Sewing Supplies: machine, extra needles, power cord, foot pedal, various preset feet, owner's manual, extra empty bobbins
Rope Bowl
Class Length: 1 hour
Cost: $20 per person
Supplies Needed: Sewing machine that can do a zig-zag stitch, open toe foot, clothesline rope, thread and multiple bobbins pre-wound to match thread and rope.
Class Description: This simple technique can be translated to many different projects. Finish at least one bowl in class, no pre-work needed. You won’t stop at just one, once you learn the tips and tricks to working with rope the possibilities are endless and you will be making gifts, seasonal variations, and more.
Jelly Roll Rug
Class Length: 2 separate 2 hour sessions - or a store demo and a 3 hour session
Cost: $ 50 per person
Supplies Needed: Sewing machine that can do a zig-zag stitch, walking foot, jelly roll, batting cut in strips or made for rugs, thread (3-4 spools and several pre-wound bobbins to match), and basic sewing notions and machine sewing supplies.
Class Description: A basic technique and project that we have broken into two sessions to account for the time and pre-work involved in the project. Class structured to do pre-work in first session and to make the rug in second. You can also opt for a in-depth store demo when shopping for class supplies and one longer session for class.
Layer Cake Quilt
Class Length: 3 hours
Cost: $40 per person
Supplies Needed: Sewing machine, ¼” piecing foot, layer cake, piecing pins, thread, basic sewing notions and machine supplies.
Class Description: Turn any layer cake into a fabulous beginner quilt measuring approximately 80” x 80”. Learn basic piecing skills to start your sewing & quilting journey.
Basting & Ditch Quilting
Class Length: 3 hours
Cost: $50 per person
Supplies Needed: Sewing machine, walking foot, basting spray or basting pins, quilt top, batting, and backing, thread, basic sewing notions and machine supplies.
Class Description: Learn how to baste your quilt top and then quilt it with basic “in the ditch quilting.”
Quilt Binding
Class Length: 1 hour
Cost: $20 per person
Supplies Needed: Sewing machine, ¼” piecing foot, “in the ditch foot”, finished quilt, binding clips, thread, basic sewing notions and machine supplies.
Class Description: Learn how to bind those finished quilts. Several techniques demonstrated then guidance as you bind your quilt. Don’t want to lug your quilt and machine to the shop, book just the in depth private binding demo for $15.
English Paper Piecing
Class Length: 1 hour
Cost: $20
Supplies Needed: EPP starter kit: milners size 11 needles, Invisible wonderful 100 wt thread, binding clip and or sew site magnets, fabric glue pen, scissors, papers and fabric for specific project.
Class Description: Slow sewing and portable, this somewhat trendy but certainly not new, hobby is easy and fun. Create simple or intricate patterns and designs without a sewing machine.
Key Fob
Class Length: 30 minutes
Cost: $15
Supplies Needed: included in cost of class for one fob- no machine or experience needed
Class Description: This simple project makes a great gift and teaches the skill set needed to make other items like belts, leashes, guitar straps, etc. No machine needed- store machine provided. Want to learn to make them on your own machine - feel free to bring it with you.
Pet Leash/ Collar
Class Length: 1 hour
Cost: $20
Supplies Needed: Sewing machine that can do a straight stitch, fabric, stabilizer, thread, various hardware depending on project
Class Description: A practical project to learn basic sewing skills on and make a fashion accessory for your pet!
Checkerboard Table Runner
Class Length: 2 hours
Cost: $30
Supplies Needed: Sewing machine that can do a straight stitch, checkerboard table runner kit, thread, basic sewing notions, batting, backing, basting spray, walking foot.
Class Description: Come make one of our best selling store kits with us. We will guide you through the whole process and you should leave with a finished table runner.
Pillowcase
Class Length: 1 hour
Cost: $20
Supplies Needed: Sewing machine that can do a straight stitch, ¼” piecing foot, fabric, thread
Class Description: This beginner friendly project is perfect for kids or as a charity project (ask us for details). Learn the popular and easy “burrito” pillowcase method to make a standard bed pillowcase.
Simple Panel Quilt
Class Length: 3 hours
Cost: $40
Supplies Needed: Sewing machine that can do a straight stitch, 1/4" piecing foot, walking foot, panel and coordinating fabrics, thread, basic sewing notions.
Class Description: Learn how to work with fabric panels to make the simplest of quilt tops. This class will also cover quilt borders, the most common and simplest way to upsize a panel.
ByAnnie Bag Pattern
Class Length: 1 hour prep session, 3+ hours depending on pattern complexity
Cost: $50
Supplies Needed: Sewing machine that can do a straight stitch, 1/4" piecing foot, walking foot, main and coordinating fabrics, hardware, interfacing, and webbing based on pattern, thread, basic sewing notions.
Class Description: ByAnnie bags are the standard in quilted bags. Learn the techniques needed to make any of her patterns. In store prep session to select materials and get you started on “homework” of preparing the quilted fabric, then 3 hour class session to construct the bag. Depending on skills, pattern complexity, and bag size additional time may be needed to complete in session. We recommend starting with Clam Up as your first bag.
